Environmental Management Statement
Enanta Pharmaceuticals is committed to doing its part to minimize the impact of its activities on the environment. We lease two locations in Massachusetts and outsource all manufacturing and commercialization to our biopharma partners. As such, our approach to environmental management focuses on embracing efficiency wherever possible as well as continuous review of environmental data through our Environmental Health & Safety group.
As an organization, we focus on areas over which we do have influence, namely:
Governance and Oversight
Enanta’s full Board has oversight of its Corporate Responsibility activities, and management has established a cross-functional Working Group which meets to discuss environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives and disclosure. The Working Group also reviews Enanta’s Corporate Responsibility strategy to ensure alignment and support of the corporate Purpose and Values. Enanta meets or exceeds compliance with all relevant environmental laws and regulations.
Waste and Emission Reduction
We are dedicated to evaluating practices that reduce our environmental footprint, such as recycling, reducing waste and saving energy. To this end, we have implemented recycling programs in our office buildings, and continuously work with the leasing owner to identify emissions reduction opportunities through either the purchase of renewable energy, RECs, LED bulbs and other means. Enanta is always evaluating waste disposal strategies to ensure waste materials are disposed of in the most environmentally beneficial manner, including fuel blending and recycling treatments.
Reporting
For a company of our size, we are proud to be reporting environmental data in such detail.
Environmental, Health and Safety Policy
Enanta has developed and implemented a proactive Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Program to assist employees in performing their job activities in a safe manner while complying with all pertinent federal, state, and local regulations.
The EHS Program includes necessary precautions to protect employees, the facilities, the surrounding community, and the greater environment from hazards associated with our industry. The comprehensive EHS Program is detailed in our Health and Safety Manuals, which includes but is not limited to: The Emergency Action Plan, Biosafety Manual/Bloodborne Pathogens Control Plan, Chemical Hygiene Plan, Radiation Safety Plan, DOT Security Plan, and Hazardous Waste LQG Contingency Plan. Electronic copies of these manuals may be found on the Company intranet in the Safety Section for all employees to view.
OSHA documents are posted throughout the organization to be visible to all employees.
Workplace Safety
Safety is the responsibility of each individual at Enanta.
All employees are responsible for maintaining a safe working environment. This includes all employees, supervisors and Environmental Health and Safety personnel. All work activities are to be conducted in a safe manner, reporting all work-related incidents and accidents, monitoring work areas for safety/housekeeping issues, and taking the appropriate steps to eliminate hazards from the work environment.
Enanta has specific requirements related to aspects of the work environment, including health and safety, and expects all Enanta employees and visitors to comply with them. While not a comprehensive list, a few examples of such guidelines include:
Incident DART Rates
Environmental Footprint
Please see details in our environmental data sheet.
Emissions
Fumes and vapors from all experiments are discharged through vents that are separate from any building HVAC system. With respect to ASHRAE 110 requirements, no significant off-gassing takes place in Enanta-occupied labs or facilities. The low volume of output is below the threshold at which EPA requires filters or scrubbers to be used. Therefore, emissions with respect to ASHRAE 110 requirement are not material to Enanta for the reasons cited.
Training and Compliance
At Enanta, we have numerous separate training modules related to safety practices, environmental management, and compliance with regulations. Many of these training modules are required to be completed during new hire safety trainings. Employees are given applicable trainings based on their roles and their job locations in our buildings. Examples of mandatory training modules include:
Additional trainings are provided by employees’ direct supervisors and conducted through outside third-party experts. These can include DOT HAZMAT, OSHA, and IATA training modules, to name a few. At Enanta, we track our compliance with mandated safety courses and have full compliance with these safety training requirements.
